I have read the masterwork, Berlin Alexanderplatz, as well as other novels by the author. The stories included in this volume are good, but perhaps not nearly at the same level of skill. The works are enjoyable nonetheless.

Doblin is a wonderful story teller. Another great book from NYRB.
interrrestinggg! Magic realism before Borges was even a little lad, and Marquez was just a twinkle in his daddy's eye. Impressionism and Expressionism rolled into one. Food for thought but watch out for indigestion.......
This is an interesting book and shows Doblin's inclinations as a psychiatric doctor. Many stories deal with pathology and psychosis of the main character and several deal with mass hallucinations or mistaken folk beliefs. Doblin has a luminous imagination and that is really what makes the book worthwhile. It is also funny.
